I have played most of the courses in the surrounding area, mainly through my four years of playing varsity on the high school golf team. Each course offers different challenges and the level of difficulty varies depending on how daring you would like to be. I have provided you a short list of the area courses no more than 10 miles from The Spouter Inn. The rating scale is based on difficulty with 1 being easy and 10 being difficult. The value is based on cost to play and course upkeep.

Goose River Golf Club

|
Rating: 7
Value: 6
9 holes, 18 tees
As a Freshman and Sophomore, this was our home course. It's located in a valley with hills, streams, tall grass and woods. One poor shot can take you from a birdy to a double bogey. Fairly expensive for a 9 hole, 18 tee course.

Northport Golf Club

Rating: 4
Value: 8
9 holes, 18 tees
Located 7 miles from the inn, this is a simple course but fun and inexpensive. If you're learning to play or just looking to hit the ball around, this is the course to do it. Challenging greens, but wide open holes to hit the ball in any direction. Around $16 for 9 holes.

Rockland Golf Club

|
Rating: 7
Value: 8
18 holes
This is where I first learned to play golf. A great 18 hole course, mostly wide open and very well maintained. It's hard to get in trouble on this course. Their one downfall is how they stack the tee-times. Typically spread about 3 minutes apart which can make for a long game during the busy summer.

Samoset Golf Club

|
Rating: 8
Value: 9
18 holes
Voted one of the top courses in New England and top 50 resort courses in the country, Samoset is a must-play. This was my home course for Junior and Senior year. Unbelievable views from every hole, exceptional course condition and very much worth the price just to walk it ($120/person) let alone play golf on it. This is my #1 suggestion.
